Physician Employment Contract Review

Before you sign, know what you're agreeing to. I review and negotiate employment contracts for physicians, with a special focus on women physicians.

Text me to talk

Text (504) 356-9678 and we'll set up a time to talk within one business day. The first conversation is free, and I don't ask for retainers. Just send your name and a good time to reach you; no details needed by text.

Most women sign the first offer; most men negotiate. Closing that gap is some of my favorite work.

An employment contract will shape your income, your schedule, your family life, and where you can practice if you leave. The employer's lawyers wrote it to protect the employer. Having your own attorney review it is how you make sure it protects you, too.

What I look for

  • Compensation: base salary, productivity and wRVU formulas, quality bonuses, and exactly how each is measured
  • Signing bonuses, relocation, and loan repayment, and when you'd have to pay them back
  • Term and termination, including how much notice either side must give and what happens to your pay
  • Malpractice and tail coverage, and who pays for it when you leave
  • Noncompete and nonsolicitation terms
  • Call, schedule, and practice locations
  • Parental leave, part-time options, and flexibility
  • Administrative duties, CME, time off, and benefits
  • Outside work, such as moonlighting, teaching, or consulting

Louisiana noncompetes

Since 2025, Louisiana law limits physician noncompetes in many contracts: generally three years for primary care physicians and five years for other physicians, with geographic limits, though some employers are exempt. Whether and how that applies to your contract is worth checking before you sign.

Negotiating, not just reviewing

Many terms are more negotiable than they look. Some physicians prefer to lead the conversation themselves with my guidance behind the scenes; others want me to speak with the employer or recruiter directly. We'll decide together what works best for you.

When to call

  • Before you sign a letter of intent or offer letter
  • When your contract is up for renewal
  • When you're offered a path to partnership
  • Before you give notice, so you know exactly what your current contract requires

Why physicians work with me

I've practiced healthcare and business law for more than 17 years, and negotiating employment contracts for women physicians is some of the most rewarding work I do. After many years as in-house counsel, I served as COO of a healthcare agency with more than 200 employees, so I've seen employment contracts from the employer's side and know which terms are truly fixed and which are open to negotiation.

No retainer. Payment plans that fit your budget.

I don't ask for retainers. I bill only for work I've completed, and you can set up a payment plan that fits your needs.

Know your worth before you sign.

Send me your offer, and let's make sure your contract reflects the value you bring. Consultations are available by phone, video, or in person across Louisiana.
